How do I register Fix-It Registry Optimizer?

On the home screen click on the Register Tab. If you already have a license key, enter your name (or company name) and then the license key and click the Activate Now button. If you do not have a license key, click Register Now to go to our website and purchase one.

What does Fix-It Registry Optimizer do?

The Windows Registry stores settings and options for Microsoft Windows and over time, the registry gradually grows in size and gets cluttered with invalid and obsolete data. Registry problems are a common cause of Windows crashes, slow performance and error messages. Running Fix-It Registry Optimizer on a regular base can help eliminate these errors and keep your PC running smoothly.

What is a "System Restore Point"?

A system restore point is a backup of your current system configuration which you can revert too should you experience any problems after removing registry errors. This feature is available to anybody using Windows 7, Vista, or XP. Once you create a system restore point you can access it by going to the Windows Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore.

To create a System Restore Point in Fix-It Registry Optimizer:

1. Click on the Backup Tab
2. Click on the Create button next to "Create System Restore Point"
3. Wait for the message "System Restore Point successfully created" and click OK

Should I create Registry Backups?

Fix-It Registry Optimizer makes it very safe and easy to remove unnecessary registry errors. For your added security you can also use the backup menu to create and restore registry backups. We do recommend that you use caution when restoring the registry as it can effect the operation of different software products on your computer.

To create a registry backup:

1. Click on the Backup Tab
2. Click on the Backup button next to "Backup registry"
3. All the sections of your registry are preselected. Uncheck any items you do not wish to include in your registry backup and click "Backup"
4. Wait until you see "Registry backup successfully created" and click OK to close.

Can I customize the Registry scan to leave out certain areas I know I don't want cleaned?

Yes, you can create customized scans.

1. Click on the Settings Tab
2. Click on the Customize Scan tab
3. By default all the areas of your registry are preselected. Uncheck the box next to any area you do not wish to have included in future scans.
4. Click Apply to save your changes.

What are the different categories covered in the registry scan?

Software location - programs listed in the control panel that are no longer installed or have other configuration problems.
Shared / known programs - pointers to files in use by more than one application that no longer exist.
File association - file types pointing to programs that no longer exist on your system.
Com / Active X - invalid Com or Active X entries in the windows registry that can cause application failure, system crashes or information loss.
Interfaces / Types - problems with the relationships between interfaces and annotation types that can result in program errors.
Start-up programs list - shortcuts in the start-up menu pointing to programs which no longer exist.
Uninstall entries - invalid entries typically due to incorrect installation or installation of applications.
Help and resources - references to help file sand resources that are no longer available.
Fonts and sounds - missing or incorrect font or sound files that can cause errors in applications.
Temporary registry values - these add clutter to the registry and can be safely removed.
Invalid shortcuts - shortcuts that refer to applications or files that are no longer on your system.

Can I set up automatic scans?

Yes, in fact we recommend it. Take advantage of this feature to run automatic scans at convenient times and keep your registry clean and optimized.

Set up automatic scans:

1. Click on the Settings Tab
2. Click on the Schedule tab
3. Select one of the 2 available options:
- have the scan run automatically at start-up
- select a convenient time and a frequency for the scan to run
4. Click Apply to save your changes

Can I undo changes made by Fix-It Registry Optimizer?

Every time you use Fix-It Registry Optimizer to remove registry errors a log file is created. Fix-It Registry Optimizer stores these log files so that you can go back and restore the deleted items if you experience any problems.

To restore deleted items:

1. Click on the Settings Tab
2. Click on the Log & Undo tab
3. Select Undo
4. Select the log file you wish to undo and click on the Undo button.
5. You will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect
